Five O’Clock Tea Time at Pousadas de Portugal

Originally from China, tea was introduced to Europe by the Portuguese in the sixteenth century.

Known as a typically British custom, the "five o’clock tea time" was introduced to the English court by Catarina de Bragança, a Portuguese princess, daughter of D. João IV, when she married Charles II of England.

Pousadas de Portugal recreate this highly sophisticated and elegant ritual and between 4:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., you can indulge in a delicious Five O’Clock Tea Time accompanied by regional Portuguese sweets.

    Includes:

    • A selection of teas and tisanes
    • Regional sweets
    • Toast
    • A selection of jam, honey and butter
