As you travel, the cereal fields reveal gentle golden hills. Opened in 1993, the Pousada is the result of the restoration of a 15th century castle, classified as a National Monument since 1910, and is an outstanding example of Portuguese architecture with Islamic, Gothic and Manueline influences.
The original tiled decoration, the view of the garden designed by the brilliant Gonçalo Ribeiro Telles and the predominance of Moorish, Gothic and Manueline styles make this castle the perfect setting for a long stay.

The whole stay in this castle is full of curious details. For example, I'm sure this is the first time you've had your breakfast at a buffet in the former dungeon of a castle. Today so cosy, the room still preserves the trapdoor that gave access to the keep, as well as the grille through which the prisoners entered the prison.
The restaurant room overlooks the inner courtyard where you can savour the best of the region's cuisine.

Besides the inevitable tomato soup, certainly unlike any other you've ever tasted, and the typical lamb stew, you can find the famous "Marquis of Alvito" codfish and the always recommended black pork with coriander "migas".
Indulge in the perfect textures and classy plating techniques that are presented to you, or take a chance at one of the suggestions of the thematic gastronomic weeks. Be sure to try the Alvito chocolate cake, the featured dessert of the Inn since it opened. And if you're a fan of "convent pastries", the wafer cheeses were made thinking of the perfect end to your meal.
