The walled village goes back to the times before nationality itself existed. The
village was conquered by the Moors by the first king of Portugal, D. Afonso Henriques. Over the centuries, it formed part of the successive queens’ dowries and was bequeathed [to the nation]: in 1498 Queen Leonor built the Santa Casa da Misericórdia (Holy House of Mercy) and its Church and Hospital. Decades later, D. Catarina had the aqueduct and fountains built for the village. The
well-preserved medieval ambience,

the Pestana Group
reconverted a building located in the village centre
