A former convent with astonishing views sitting at the foothills of the Serra da Esperança Mountains
The Pousada Convento Belmonte is a hotel that is situated on a hillside of the Serra da Esperança (Mountain of Hope), just over 0.62 miles from the town of Belmonte (birthplace of Pedro Álvares Cabral).
Panoramic and cosy
It arose from the restoration of the ruins of the former Convent of Nossa Senhora da Esperança, over a 13th century hermitage and probably over the remains of ancient pagan places of worship.
The Pousada fully preserves all of the convent's historical heritage, including the amphitheatre architecture and stunning views over the Cova da Beira and Serra da Estrela regions. In the architectural project, the chapel and the old sacristy were restored, now transformed into a lounge and bar.
Pousada Convento Belmonte has a large terrace with a swimming pool and sun loungers. All the rooms at Pousada Convento Belmonte have a balcony and some overlook the Serra da Estrela Nature Reserve.
They are decorated with antique furniture, wrought iron beds and local stone finishes. The Pousada's famous restaurant is inspired by the region's typical cuisine, offering visitors a range of dishes full of flavour and magic.
Under the command of Chef Valdir Lubave, this restaurant is gaining more notoriety every day.
