Pousada de Alvito, Castelo de Alvito
The Alvito village shows the wealth of the past, revealed by the beauty of its monuments and the greatness of its history, with such buildings as the Mother Church, the chapel of São Sebastião, the marvellous Solar de Água de Peixe, which were decorated to the tastes of the Manueline style.
The Alvito castle is a building of an architectural mixture between military and mansion, where you can find Islamic, gothic and Manueline influences.
In a fifteenth century castle
The Pousada do Alvito opened in 1993 after the recuperation of the fifteenth century castle. This building has been classified, since 1910, as a National Monument and an example of the best of the Portuguese architecture, which combines the architecture of the fortress and palatial residence and of Islamic, gothic and Manueline influences.
The Alentejo village of Alvito is found around 30 km from Beja. A place that that both couples and families find inviting for relaxation in a splendid location surrounded by luxury, charm and finesse.
Stepping out on the outdoor patio we can appreciate a view of the magical flickering lights from the Castle wall lights.
The Alvito Castle gardens, set up in 1993 by the famous architect Goncalo Ribeiro Telles, have a built in irrigation system and were created as part of the agricultural landscape and for the enjoyment of the medieval castles.
