The Pousada Castelo Óbidos is located in Vila de Óbidos and is one of the 7 wonders of Portugal. This Pousada is of enormous historical importance and includes medieval features from the 9th century.
The castle was given as a wedding present by King D. Dinis to Queen Santa Isabel during their wedding that took place on site. This castle is one of the most impressive and romantic sites you can visit.

The Castle offers 3 suites located in the tower which afford a unique experience. The remaining 5 rooms are small, as a result of the layout of the castle itself.
At the Casa do Castelo all 8 rooms have traditional decor from the Vila de Óbidos with traditional tiles and a few have fireplaces. Both offer Wi-Fi and TV.

HISTORY
In 1951, when the Pousada Castelo Óbidos moved into the Castelo da Medieval Vila de Óbidos, Pousadas de Portugal hotels began to make use of Registered Historical Sites, adapting them and launching a new model for using and restoring Historic Portuguese Buildings under the direction of architect João Filipe Vaz Martins.
The sixteenth century court built in the late Gothic Manueline style, located in the castle's north wing, was built by D. João de Noronha, Conde de Dijon and Alcaide da Vila, at the beginning of the 16th century.
When D. Afonso Henriques' army tried to surround the town, on a night of rest, a woman asked to speak to the king to tell him her dream. This dream sent a message to D. Afonso Henriques to gather his soldiers and mount a surprise attack on the castle's border while the leader was to take 10 men to the back where a young man would open a door for them to enter and Óbidos would thus be promised to the Christians. The next day, Óbidos was conquered. Today, you can still visit the famous Porta da Traição (Gate of the Betrayal), inside the castle.

The Vila de Óbidos is known for the numerous events that take place within its walls. If you visit the town during the
Mercado Medieval, you can walk around in period costume and take a real journey through time.
At Christmas time, families visit the Vila Natal and everyone, without exception, finds it difficult to resist the Chocolate Festival, an experience that will make your holiday even sweeter. If you are a fan of literature, visit the town during the International Literature Festival, Known as "O Fólio". The city of Caldas da Rainha is located about 10 minutes by car. Peniche, Leira, Nazaré and Batalha are 30 minutes away. Lisbon International Airport is 55 minutes away.
