Nature Pousada do Marão, São Gonçalo
Nature
This was the second Pousada to open in 1942, built in slate which fitted perfectly in its natural environment. Mount Marão is the sixth highest in Continental Portugal, 1415 m. Found in the region between Douro Litoral and Trás os Montes and Alto Douro.
Constructed in slate
The Pousada de Marão, São Gonçalo, was, in 1942, the second Pousada to open, built in slate integrating perfectly into its natural environment at an altitude of 880 metres.

The windows and balconies of this hotel in Marão overlook the magnificent valley of the Marão Mountains and the valley of the River Tâmega. In this place is the Natural Park of Alvão, which, in the winter is covered by a large blanket of snow, which makes it a sight of rare beauty. In the spring, the summer and in the autumn you will find a sight of warm colours.

This region is characterised by its colossal bio-diverse flora, among many rare species or native such as the carnation of the Alps and the wild lilies, we can find oak, birch, holly, chestnut hawthorn and many other species of flora.
From the Pousada de São Gonçalo you can go on infinite walks on beautiful trails that have no comparison, or even prescribe yourself a visit to the Mateus palace (Vila Real) that, apart from its architectural importance, has an international cultural activities program.

The mystery and legends surrounding an old manor hide a unique aura. The 15 rooms are the perfect symbiosis of the harmony of a unique natural scenario of high standards of finesse with comfort and traditional decor.

The Pousada has a Spa with complete service, an outdoor pool with a terrace and sun beds, where you can relax in the hydro-massage tub or in the sauna.

The Pousada’s restaurant offers a typically mountainous menu with roast baby mountain goat, barbequed veal or roast pork loin with herbs from Mount Marão, served with a selection of revered wines of the region.

The Amarante cities and Vila Real are around 20 km from the hotel.
