Pousada do Marão, São Gonçalo
This was the second Pousada to open in 1942, built in slate which fitted perfectly in its natural environment.
Mount Marão is the sixth highest in Continental Portugal, 1415 m. Found in the region between Douro Litoral and Trás os Montes and Alto Douro.

The Pousada de Marão, São Gonçalo, was, in 1942, the second Pousada to open, built in slate integrating perfectly into its natural environment at an altitude of 880 metres.
The windows and balconies of this hotel in Marão overlook the magnificent valley of the Marão Mountains and the valley of the River Tâmega. In this place is the Natural Park of Alvão, which, in the winter is covered by a large blanket of snow, which makes it a sight of rare beauty. In the spring, the summer and in the autumn you will find a sight of warm colours.
This region is characterised by its colossal bio-diverse flora, among many rare species or native such as the carnation of the Alps and the wild lilies, we can find oak, birch, holly, chestnut hawthorn and many other species of flora.
