This Pousada was developed in one of the most pleasant places of the Ria de Aveiro, between S. Jacinto and Torreira, next to the Natural Reserve of S. Jacinto.
In this 60s building, standing on pillars over the water, the atmosphere of pure contact with nature is very special.
The History of Aveiro
The first known Charter in Aveiro was from the Manueline period, dated August 4th 1515, as stated in the book of New Readings of Estremadura Charters.
The magnificent geographical location, from early on, encouraged the settlement of populations in the region, with salt making, fishing and maritime trade being the main factors in its development.
Visitors will not only marvel with the present, but also with the subtle testimonies of its history, such as the Baroque and Mannerist influences present in most of its churches and chapels: in the Aveiro Museum, the Jesus Church, with its majestic gilded decorations and ceiling, whose delicate carvings suggest the work of a great goldsmith; the Princess Saint Joana's tomb, a magnificent eighteenth century example, with very fine marble inlays; the Carmelitas Church, a temple belonging to the former convent built in the seventeenth century; the Sé Cathedral, which dates back to the fifteenth century and the S. Domingos stone cross, a masterpiece from this period of great iconographic value.
