Onwards to the Western Algarve, the mythical cape Sagres is another location full of history and legend. The first written references of Sagres go back to 350 A.D referring to it as being called "Cape Kinetic".
The history of Sagres has inevitably been associated with the history of the Cape of São Vicente, for a long time believed to be the last place on earth and nothing to exist beyond the Cabo, just the sea and the end of the world.
Prince Dom Henrique chose the area of Sagres and the Cape to create the Portuguese Caravels which allowed new navigational techniques.
Today, to enter into the region of Sagres is to absorb the mystic atmosphere, wrapped in a wild landscape, dramatically unexplored, where the sea and the mountains meet to form the unusual natural heritage.
The beauty of its beaches, many of which deserted, and the imposing cliffs overlooking the sea, together with its historical grandeur make up the principal charm of this region
Many of the inhabitants still dedicate their time to the sea and land, taking advantage of the abundance of nature and thus creating a varied and tasty cuisine.
Its visitors can also dedicate themselves to nature, defying of the waves, admiring the bottom of the sea, scaling the cliffs or exploring new paths.
Sagres is one of the few places in Algarve where the wild nature together with the rich cultural heritage remains intact.
