Pousada History:

The original building where today the Pousada is placed was constructed jointly with the dam, that it was inaugurated in 1969. Initially it the house of the engineers who construction the Barrage, remaining itself thus until being acquired by the Enatur and being reopened as Pousada de Portugal in 1979, with reduced lodging capacity, 6 rooms only.

In May 1994, the Pousada closed for workmanships of remodelling and magnifying under the trace of the Architect Corrêa Guedes, reopening in May 1996, already with 19 rooms. The official inauguration happened one year later, in May 1997, remaining itself as it is until the present.

A scene of extraordinary beauty, where the natural landscape and the workmanship of the man coexist, he was the chosen one for the Pousada de Santa Clara.

With an unusual situation, looking at the dam and encircled of mounts and valleys, covered of intense vegetation. Of its balconies and swimming pool, the magnificent sight invites to anyone to rest. It’s a quite place, ideal for the ones who likes hunting, fishing, doing water sports or simply relaxing in perfect integration with nature.

The name, such as the dam, comes from the population nearby, Santa Clara-a-Velha.

 

The Village of Santa Clara-a-Velha:

This village of Clara-a-Velha Saint, at about 4km from the Pousada, has 1000 inhabitants. The valley covers the streets of the village and it’s possible to contemplate the popular architecture and to talk with the habitants. The traditional commerce also sends regards.

Very close is a Natural Park and Costa Vicentina, where the beaches are very appreciated and known. This is a zone where nothing that the man produced, it can rival, in beauty, with the landscapes that the nature created. 

At last, 40km from the Pousada, is the village of Odemira with its typical white houses and gardens that invite to a pause in the shade. The river runs quite and in the estuary, the fortress of Vila Nova de Milfontes watches the port and the entrance of the river, once devastated by pirates.

The beaches are succeeded in this place of concurred summering. One or another port of fishes artisan and the Sardão Handle, with its lighthouse, complete this spectacular natural landscape. Bathed with a rich sea in species, this region has a wide gastronomic tradition in fish and shellfishes.
