A few hundred meters from the town, the Santa Luzia Mount rises, dominating the city and the mouth of the Lima to the Atlantic.
Since 1979, this hotel unit has been part of the Pousadas de Portugal network. Previously named Hotel de Santa Luzia, this unit was remodelled in such a way as to provide a more welcoming and comfortable atmosphere, and reopened with the name of Pousada do Monte de Santa Luzia.

The human occupation of the region of Viana dates back to the Mesolithic, according to testimonies there are many archaeological findings prior to the pre-Roman citadel on the mount of Santa Luzia.
The thriving maritime trade with north of Europe involves the export of wines, fruit and salt and the import of cutlery, fabrics, upholstery and glass. The commercial spirit of Viana reached such proportions that Queen Maria II of Portugal granted license to the Commercial Association of Viana do Castelo in 1852 which is today the fourth oldest employer in the country.
This city is truly enticing due to its cultural value and heritage, the highlights being: the Cathedral, the Matriz Church, the Santa Cruz Church, S. Domingos chapel, the Malheiro Reimão chapel, the allegory fountain of Viana and the four continents, the Square Fountain (dating back to the sixteenth century), the Mercy Hospital of Viana, the Town Hall, the Casa Barbosa Maciel Municipal Museum and the railway station.
